Our Scripture reading today is Luke 15:11-12, "And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.  And he divided unto them his living."
A father in this period of time was able to grant an inheritance before he died or it would be given after he died.  From our text this morning, we see that this father was willing to grant his rebellious son his inheritance before the father had passed away.  He, in love, allowed his son to exercise his free will.  It seems the younger son was motivated by greed and foolishness.  I cannot imagine what was going through the heart of the father in Luke 15 as his younger son walked away from the family.
We can all be thankful this morning for our loving, Heavenly Father.  He allows us freely choose what direction we will go in life.  The free will of man is what truly shows the love of God.  He desires for us to love Him, but He will not force us into this decision.  Choose today to love Him by being obedient to His Word!
