Our Scripture reading today is Luke 1:18-20.

Verse 20, "And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season."

There were too many reasons for Zacharias not to believe the angelic message he had received.  Since he and his wife were well past the age of having children, he asked for more confirmation.  Gabriel's word was not good enough for him.  I must say we would all most likely have done the same thing.

It is no longer necessary for Gabriel to deliver such messages to us today.  We have been given the completed revelation of God.  God's Word is filled with all we need to know God and live in daily victory.  2 Peter 1:19, "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:"  It is imperative that we not only read it, but that we also believe it.  God's Word changes our lives to be more like Christ and bring Him glory and honour.
