Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 1:5-7.

Verse 7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

There is a definite need today for Christians to have a sound mind.  What exactly is a sound mind?  It is a calm, self-controlled mind.  This is in contrast to how we might normally respond to something fearful and unexpected.  A normal response to a trial is fear and confusion.  We can however, approach every day with a calmness that only comes through being yielded to the Spirit of God.  A choice is made to live in fear or live with a sound mind.  If you are living day to day in fear of things you have no control over, it is time to confess that to God and claim His provision of power, love and a sound mind.

Paul also writes from a prison cell in Philippians 4:6-7, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."  We are guaranteed a sound and kept mind as well spend time in God's Word and in communion with Him in prayer.  What will you choose to do today?
