Our Scripture reading today is 2 Kings 21:19-22.
Verse 21, "And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:"
Unfortunately the damage of Manasseh's testimony had already been felt in the heart of his son, Amon.  While Manasseh would humble himself, Amon did not. (See 2 Chronicles 33:23.) Amon repeats what he watched his father do.  "Glycas saith that Amon hardened himself in sin by his father’s example, who took his swing in sin, and yet at length repented."
The power of influence and example must not be overlooked.  Whether we are a parent or not, we have influence.  In this passage of Scripture, we are allowed to see what can happen when a father does not lead in a Godly manner.  The authority in Amon's life was a major disappointment.  This did not remove Amon's accountability, but it definitely hindered him from fearing and serving the one true God.
What kind of an example are you setting in your home?  Do your children have a dad and mom in their life who are attempting by God's grace to lead them to love and fear God?  Do your co-workers know you are a Christian?  Humanly speaking, there are no perfect examples to follow.  The best example we can have is one that humbly follows Jesus Christ no matter the cost involved.
