Our Scripture reading today is Luke 7:31-32.

Verse 31, "And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?"

It would seem that the men of Jesus day were uncertain of whether to believe Him or His messengers.  They may have thought or even said something like this, "Jesus Christ does all these miracles, but is He for real?"  We could say they lacked the willingness to commit.  Commitment means we will be involved, dedicated or engaged.

There is a great need in Christianity today for men and women to be committed to the cause of Jesus Christ.  A committed Christian is not someone who simply attends church every once and awhile.  A committed Christian is someone who every day seeks to follow the leading of the Spirit of God in his or her life.  When we follow the leading of the Spirit, we are bringing God the glory that He alone deserves.  A committed Christian is someone who loves the family of God in word and deed.  John 13:35, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

It could be me, but it seems that we have fewer committed Christians today than we did 10 years ago.  Fewer people attend church faithfully. Fewer people attend Saturday morning outreach. How can this be the case? We must pray for our commitment level to increase and not decrease.
