Our Scripture reading today is Luke 23:8-10.

Verse 8, "And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him."

Herod had no plans of becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, but he was really interested in seeing Him do one of miracles.  Herod was more interested in the emotional and might we say being entertained.  "Certain of the old writers delight to remark that as there were four evangelists to do honour to our Lord, so were there four judges to do him shame. Annas and Caiaphas, Pilate and Herod." (Spurgeon)

As we assemble together, it should be our prayer that God's Spirit fill not only the preacher but every listener as well.  We are not coming to church to be entertained but to worship the Lord and seek to serve others.  I have seen it happen time and time that with this attitude comes the mighty working of God.  Our coming to church is not all about what can I get out of it.  If we humble ourselves and seek His will, He will show us a peek of His power.  To God be all the glory!
