Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 18:21, "And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word."
The children of Israel were bouncing back and forth between worshipping God and Baal.  How could they do such a thing?  How could they continue to worship a false god like Baal especially after what took place on Carmel?  Similar questions could be asked today of people who call them selves Christians but are following the ways of the world.
Notice please the two words, "How long..."  If we took those words for us today, we could ask how many more sermons will it take for you to get right with God?  How many more warnings from God do you need before you will repent and be saved?  As in the days of Elijah, there are many people today who are challenging the mercy of God. YES, God is merciful and we should all be thankful for that every day.  However, His mercy will not last forever.  Those who reject Him will be judged for all eternity for their sins in the Lake of Fire.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, how long is it going to take for us to be faithful?  How long is it going to take for us to be obedient to His Word and follow His will?  How long is it going to take to remove as much of the world as possible from our lives?  "How long halt ye between two opinions?"  Let us follow the words of Joshua, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
