Our Scripture reading today is Genesis 37:3-4.

Verse 3, "Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours."

It is never wise to have a favourite child and to especially show it in such a way that that child receives extra blessings.  Jacob definitely did not help his other sons any when he gave Joseph his special coat.  This does not in any way excuse his brothers for their conduct.  God still works even when we make poor choices.

Our heavenly Father does not play favourites.  He loves each of us unconditionally.  He desires to bless each of us equally.  There may be someone with more blessings but this is as a result of their obedience.  Obedience always brings blessings.  Galatians 6:7, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
