Our Scripture reading today is Ecclesiastes 5:4-5.
Verse 4, "When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools:
pay that which thou hast vowed."
We learn from these verses that it is not wrong to vow something to God, but a
vow should be made slowly and prayerfully. A vow is a promise that is made to
be or do something. Vows or promises are made almost on a daily basis. It is
important that we strive to be people of our word. When we said, "I do", to our
spouse, it is for better or worse. This is a portion of the wedding vow. The
wedding vow is not made to be broken. Yes, it does happen. Yes, God still loves
those who break their wedding vows, but that does not mean we should even
consider breaking ours.
Is there a vow/promise you made to God that you are not keeping? It is time to
get it right and seek to fulfill whatever you told God you would do. The verse
for today indicates it is a foolish thing to not follow through on a vow.
