Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 40:8, "I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart."
There is a different way of thinking to say "I have to" or "I get to". One statement
indicates no delight and the other indicates a delighting. The psalmist was thankful that
he could do the will God. David was not a perfect example, but who is? Of course, the
Lord Jesus is the only One Who always did the will of His Father. “Jesus not only did the Father’s will,
but found a delight therein; from old eternity he had desired the work set before him; in his human life he
was straitened till he reached the baptism of agony in which he magnified the law, and even in Gethsemane
itself he chose the Father’s will, and set aside his own.” (Spurgeon)
David was a man after God's own heart who delighted in the doing what God wanted him to do.
This delighting came from his walk with the Lord. The Word of God was in his heart. How
much time do you spend in God's Word?
