Our Scripture reading today is Luke 18:39-41.

Verse 40, "And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,"

We continue the story of the blind man who unashamedly called out for Jesus Christ to help him.  After reading through these few verses, I could not get past the statement, "When he was come near..."  This is obviously referring to the closeness of the blind man to Jesus.  He no longer needed to shout and he could also hear whatever Jesus might say to him.

What is there in our lives that is preventing us from being close to Jesus?  Is there something that needs to be confessed and forsaken in order that we might be nearer to Him than we are at the moment?  God is more than willing and reading for us to be near Him each and every day.

Nearer, My God, to Thee

1 Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
still all my song shall be,
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

2 Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
darkness be over me, my rest a stone;
yet in my dreams I'd be
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

3 There let the way appear, steps unto heaven;
all that thou sendest me, in mercy given;
angels to beckon me
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!
