Our Scripture reading today is John 10:27-30.
Verse 28, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
This is one of the most assuring passages of Scripture. The Lord Jesus gives us a promise that once we are saved, we will always be saved. As I sit here this morning, I am just as much in Heaven as I am in my living room. The eternal life that I received by faith when I was a 9 year old boy has been my present possession ever since. I am not waiting for eternal life when I die. I have it NOW. Praise the Lord!
Eternal life is a gift from God that must be received by faith. There is nothing in us that can earn eternal life, nor do we deserve it. Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" In fact, we actually deserve to die and go to Hell for all eternity. Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death..." If you are not sure whether or not you have eternal life, there is no better time than right now for you to receive this most precious gift.
