Our Scripture reading today is John 6:26-27.

Verse 27, "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."

A contrast is made by the Lord Jesus between spiritual and material things.  It is natural for our flesh to be attracted to that which is material.  For the most part, it looks more appealing to have all the nice things this world has to offer.  This requires us to work or labour in order to have them.  The problem with the material things of this world is that they will perish.  They have no eternal value.  Jesus challenges us today to seek to lay up as much treasure in Heaven as possible.  He has "meat" for us in Heaven that endures forever.

Matthew 6:19, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:"
