Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 2:1-5.
Verse 5, "And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully."
God has given us all the tools necessary to overcome our sinful desires. The world, the flesh and the devil are constantly attacking us from all sides. As born again believers, we are indwelt by the Spirit of God and we have the Word of God. The instructions for victory are clearly given to us in the Scriptures. The indwelling Holy Spirit guides us to and through the truth. John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
It is very important that we follow the specific instructions which point us to spiritual victory. We are no match for our enemies, but with the power of God applied, we will overcome! Romans 8:37, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." When victories come, be quick to praise and glorify our King -- 1 Corinthians 15:57, "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
