Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 30:6-8.

Verse 7, "And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David."

Immediatly following David being encouraged in the goodness of God, he seeks to get back to following the leading of God.  In verse 6, we read of a distressed and defeated leader.  It was a very low moment in David's life.  While he had been with the Philistines, the last thing on his mind was to seek God's counsel.  The strength and encouragement that David found in God moved him to inquire what he should do next.

Could it be that we have been too close to the Philistines of our day that we have wandered away from the closeness we once had with God?  Could it be that we are almost out of "spiritual gas" and in need of reviving?  Wherever you find yourself on the journey of life, it is always wise to remember where God has brought you from and get your strength and encouragement directly from Him.  There are many good sources we can use to help edify us, but they should not replace our inquiring of the LORD.
