Our Scripture reading today is 2 Samuel 12:13, "And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die."

There was no other place for David to place the blame than on his own shoulders.  He was completely in the wrong and we see his confession on full display.  “The words are very few, but that is a good sign of a thoroughly broken spirit. There is no excuse, no hiding, no concealment of the sin. There is no searching for a loophole, no pretext put forward, no human weakness pleaded. He acknowledged his guilt openly, candidly and without any denial of truth.” (Keil and Delitzsch) Unfortunately, it took David a year to say these few words, "I have sinned against the LORD".

The sooner we come to a place of confession in our life, the better.  We can try and shift the blame, but if we are the one who "pulled the trigger" on the sin, we need to confess and forsake it.  1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  God is always ready to forgive a repentant, humble heart.
