Our Scripture reading today is 1 John 5:11-12.

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."

When we hold the Word of God in our hands, we are holding His infallible record.  Another word we could use is His testimony.  God's Word tells us everything God wants us to know about Him and His record.  The record of God is truth.  In the context of these two verses we read this morning, the record of God declares that eternal life comes from God and can only come through His Son, Jesus Christ.  Eternal life is not given by any church or denomination.  Eternal life is not earned or kept by fallen man.  The record or testimony of God states otherwise.  Which record should we trust and believe?  The record of a holy God or fallen man?

God's perfect record gives us great assurance and hope.  We need not lean on what we understand.  Instead, it is in our best interest to acknowledge Him in everything and He will guide us each step of the way.  My eternal destiny is secure in the perfect record of the creator God.  May we all continue to wholly lean on the name of Jesus!
