Our Scripture reading today is Nehemiah 8:14-16.

Verse 14, "And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:"

The importance of simple obedience can be seen in this passage in God's Word.  They discovered something written in the Word of the Lord and they did it.  Tradition did not tell them to keep the Feast of Tabernacles, but God's Word did.

Tradition should not be our guide if God's Word says we are to do something different.  God's Word should always be our final authority for faith and practice.  It will guide us to and keep us in the perfect will of God.  We should read it with the intention of obeying whatever it tells us to do.
