Our Scripture reading today is Luke 15:17-19.

Verse 17, "And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!"

The prodigal son had hastily requested his portion of the inheritance and then wasted it just as hastily.  He tried everything that he thought would satisfy, but it only took him deeper and deeper into loneliness and depression.  He kept making poor decisions to the point where he did not even realize what he was doing.

We come now to verse 17 where Luke writes that this wayward son, "came to himself."  This means he woke up.  He finally realized he put himself in this place and there was a way out.  He was responsible and would not blame anyone else.  It was also in his power to decide to repent and rekindle the fellowship with his father.  In verse 18, we read of how the change of mind leads to a change of direction..."I will arise and go to my father..."  If you are away from your Father in some way today, He is waiting for you to come to yourself and return to Him!
