Our Scripture reading today is John 15:9-11.
Verse 11, "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
How can we have joy in the most difficult of times?  How can we have joy when the unexpected tragedy takes place?  These are questions I have asked myself in recent days.  These are questions I have asked myself in the past.  It will never cease to amaze me what God has waiting for us in the storms of life.  Jesus Christ makes it clear in verse 11 that our joy is contingent upon His joy remaining in us.  His joy remains in us through His Word.
The Word of God is a place of refuge.  The Word of God is a place of peace.  The Word of God keeps our joy tank full and overflowing.  We can have tears of sorrow and joy at the same time.  The Spirit of God Who dwells within us; uses the Word of God to comfort and strengthen us.
Psalm 61:1-4, "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah."
God is good.  God is faithful.
