Our Scripture reading today is Luke 10:13-14.

Verse 13, "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes."

There was a missing ingredient in Chorazin and Bethsaida that would have led them to genuine repentance.  They were witnesses to many mighty works and yet they were too much in love with themselves and with their sin.  It may not be mentioned in our text, but one has to think that there was not much humility which led to an unwillingness to repent.

The very end of verse 13 describes someone who allowed humility to bring the to a place of brokenness and repentance.  "One of the most vivid images of repentance in the Bible is of a character literally changing clothes and putting on a sackcloth made from rough goat hair. This is very often accompanied by sitting in ashes from burnt wood, and for good measure, heaping some of those ashes upon one’s head." (Joe Misek)  Pride would not allow someone to go through with this.  Only humility would bring an individual to this place in their life.  It is time for the family of God to humble themselves before our Father and repent of any sin in our lives.  There is no better time than the present to get thoroughly right with God.
