Our Scripture reading today is Acts 8:20, "But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money."

We live a world where many people are chasing the almighty dollar.  If there were eight days in the week, they would work all eight of them.  There are religious systems that condition people that they can "pay" their way to forgiveness.  There is no evidence of this in the Word of God.  It is completely man-made.

Unfortunately this make all you can and can all get philosophy has crept into the Christian world as well.  Why do we work as if we are the ones who have to supply?  Yes, we should be hard workers.  Yes, we should be diligent workers.  Who is actually doing the supplying in our lives?  The way to live our life is to recognize it is God that supplies all of our need.  It is God that gives us power to get wealth. (See Matthew 6:33)  We should use what we have for His glory.  I don't want my finances to perish with me.  I want to send as much ahead into eternity as possible.
