Our Scripture reading today is Luke 7:18-20.
Verse 19, "And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?"
John the Baptist has been in prison for some time now and it seems to have contributed to his questioning whether Jesus was the Messiah or not.  He clearly identified Him as such in John 1:29, "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."  “John was already in prison, and things began to appear incomprehensible to him. He had expected that Christ would speedily destroy the powers of darkness and judge the unrighteous. But instead of doing this, He leaves him, His forerunner, helpless in prison.” (Geldenhuys)  The timing of everything did not line up with John's expectations.
You might be wondering when God is going to come through and answer your prayer.  You might be watching things in this world and wondering why Christ has not returned yet to take His bride out of here.  Remember the words of the prophet Isaiah, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD." (55:8) The Word of God remains our anchor.  The Word of God has been tested and can always be trusted.  Psalm 119:90, "Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth."  God is good and is working all things together for our good.
