Our Scripture reading today is Luke 2:8-9.

Verse 8, "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."

These shepherds were faithfully looking after the sheep that were part of their fold.  Bethlehem shepherds typically looked after temple sheep.  Quite possibly they were taking care of lambs that would be used in the temple sacrifices.  It was their life's work to look after these four legged creatures.

These men were in the field during the night.  I can honestly say it would not have been on my bucket list to even spend one night in the field with sheep.  The shepherds were faithful to keep watch over the sheep who needed protection.  I believe this is a good reminder for us today to keep watch over our mind.  It is imperative that we guard what we allow ourselves to think and meditate about.  A verse of Scripture that we should be reading and meditating on often is Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,  whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praisethink on these things."

Have a wonderful day!
