Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 2:21-25.
Verse 23, "Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:"
How do we respond when we are accused of something we did not do?  How do we respond when someone slanders our name?  How do we respond when someone is gossiping about us?  Our example is found in verse 23.  The LORD Jesus endured far grater than these and He continued on the mission He was given.  Jesus did not allow the reviling, suffering or threatening to distract Him from being committed to His Father's will.  Keep in mind, Jesus was and is perfect.  “He suffered, but not on account of any evil he had either done or said. In deed and word he was immaculate, and yet he was exposed to suffering; expect the same, and when it comes bear it in the same spirit.” (Clarke)
The easiest way to put out a fire is stop adding fuel to it.  Our response to accusations or gossip must not be the same in return.  As Jesus did, we can leave it in the capable hands of Him that "judgeth righteously."  God is faithful and He will do a much better job looking after these issues than you or I ever could.  Romans 12:19, "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."
Have a wonderful day!
