Our Scripture reading today is Luke 21:1-4.

Verse 4, "For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had."

We come across a scenario in this passage of Scripture where less is more.  At least it was through the eyes of the Lord Jesus.  The rich men had put much into the "offering" that day, but the widow put in all that she had.  I think we could say this is the true meaning of sacrifice.  This praise of what the widow gave came right after Jesus rebuked the scribes regarding their treatment of widows. (See Luke 20:27)

It should be our goal to please God in every area of our life and this would include our giving.  The widow takes away the excuse of I would give more if I had more.  She did not have more, but still gave.  God has given us everything and we must be faithful stewards.  While God does not need our money, it is privilege to give to Him.
