Our Scripture reading today is Luke 15:8-10.
Verse 8, "Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?"
There is great significance placed on the order in which this woman searches for the lost coin. The mention of first things is something we should not overlook. Before she went looking for the lost coin, she lit a candle. How quickly she could have just gone looking for it, but instead she took the time to find a candle and then light the candle.
The Word of God is the light we need to shine on this dark world. The first step however is to shine the Word on our own lives. There is definitely some house sweeping that needs to be done in the lives of Christians. God's Word will reveal things in our lives that need to be removed so we can be ready to search for the lost!
