Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:62, "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
The theme of where are we looking continues in this morning's reading.  I trust all of us were in church yesterday morning and heard the preaching of God's Word.  A very timely message from the always timely Word of God.
We are reminded of the fact that casual Christianity isn't really Christianity.  There is commitment needed to faithfully follow the Lord Jesus Christ.  In recent days, we have seen a falling away of "Christians".  There are many people who we have not seen since early 2020.  What happened to them?  Where are they now?  It is concerning how quickly the enemy can get us to look back and get off track.  "In plowing a field in that day, a farmer kept the rows straight by focusing on an object in front and in the distance (such as a tree). If the farmer started to plow and kept looking behind, he would never make straight rows and do a good job plowing. In following Jesus, we are to keep our eyes on Jesus, and never take our eyes off Him. 'No ploughman ever ploughed a straight furrow looking back over his shoulder.'” (Barclay)
Most of the time this falling away starts with looking away from God's Word.  Once the Bible is no longer a part of one's daily life, the church is next on the list of the enemy.  As we learned on last Wednesday, the church is precious and should be followed as Jesus Christ is leading the way.  We must be committed to Him and His will for our lives.  He is faithful and will always be our guide.
