Our Scripture reading today is Luke 6:35, "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and
lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the
children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."
The command to love our enemies is very challenging without relying on God and His
grace. Man's flesh has no desire at all to treat someone kindly who is mean and spiteful.
It is clear in this verse as well as others that God's children should take the high road
and even give to our enemies without any expectation of it being given back. God's
Spirit will enable us to practice this type of living if we are yielded to Him.
God provides us with an example to follow. He loved us first even when we were His
enemy. He still loves us today when we fail Him. Love your enemies with the love
that God has given you.
