Our Scripture reading today is Proverbs 3:11-12, "My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD;
neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the
son in whom he delighteth."
An indicator of salvation is the chastening and correction of God that comes to our lives
when we sin against God. These verses remind us that it is the love of God that leads
to our chastening. God does not want us to go any further away from Him. If we did,
it would cause us greater spiritual pain and suffering. Sin when it is finished always
bring death. God loves His children and does want them to experience the reaping of
sin. “When the father’s admonitions are violated, the son can expect the Lord to back it up with a
“spanking” to prevent the wrong from becoming habitual.” (Waltke)
If you are living in continual sin and not facing God's correction, it would be wise to
check on your salvation. Satan wants you to continue down the path that leads to
destruction. He does not chasten his children. Satan hates you and wants you to join
him in Hell. God loves you and has made a way for you to be forgiven and join Him
in Heaven some day.
