Our Scripture reading today is Luke 7:24-26.
Verse 26, "But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet."
John the Baptist was a prophet like none other.  He lived his life to please God and was not concerned about pleasing men.  Jesus Christ refers to him as "more than a prophet".  He was an unconventional, bold witness for God.  He was not swayed by popularity or the lack thereof.
We have an opportunity every day to walk in the Spirit and make a difference for the cause of Jesus Christ.  For this to become a reality, we must die to self.  1 Corinthians 15:31, "I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily."  We are also to set our sights on pleasing God and not men.  1 Thessalonians 4:1, "Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more."
John the Baptist is someone who patterned this example for us.  May each one of us be steadfast in our walk no matter how much the winds of time change.
