Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 60:3-4.
Verse 4, "Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah."
David knew what it meant to be empowered by God in the time of battle.  This was not a time to depend less on His power.  God has promised to give us victory through the Lord Jesus.  The banner was a reminder of this promise and that He would continue to be their help in time of need.  “When Amalek fought against Israel in Rephidim, victory came to the people of God as Moses, supported by Aaron and Hur, prayed on the mount and Joshua went forth to battle. After the victory Moses built an altar, and called the name of it ‘Jehovah Nissi,’ that is, Jehovah our Banner.” (Morgan)
It is of great importance that we keep our eyes fastened on our Banner.  Jesus Christ is and always will be our victory.  He is our all powerful, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  His name is above every name.  Psalm 98:1, "O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory."
We are on the winning side!
