Our Scripture reading today is Luke 23:40-43.
Verse 41, "And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss."
One of the convicted criminals surrounding the Lord Jesus figured it out just in time. He recognized his responsibility for his actions as well as the sinless condition of the Man in the middle. The two criminals were getting exactly what they had earned. As the wise criminal said, they were getting their "due reward..."
What if you got your "due reward"? What if I got my "due reward"? God's Word makes it very clear that the reward or the wages of our sin is death. This death is far more than no more breathing or heart beating. Revelation 20:14, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Praise the Lord for the victory that was provided at Calvary! Jesus Christ took our "due reward" on Him. Isaiah 53:6, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." Thank you, JESUS!!
