Pure in Their Own Eyes

Today’s Scripture reading is Proverbs 30:12-14.

Verse 12, "There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes..."

We all tend to see ourselves not as bad as the next person.  It is only natural to see oneself as being a pretty good person.  What should be our motivation for living is what does God see and know.  Deuteronomy 13:18, "When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God."  The test to determine if we are pure cannot be our eyes, but His Word.  We are a blessed people that we have God's Word to show us how to live and how not to live.  In addition, God has provided each of His children the indwelling Holy Spirt who just happens to be the author of His Word.  See 2 Peter 1:21.
