Our Scripture reading today is John 15:5-7.
Verse 7, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
God will give me whatever I want!! Not quite so fast on that prayer for a sports car, truck or multi-million dollar mansion.  Let's make sure we focus on the beginning of the verse as well.  Before we ask, there is some abiding that needs to take place.  We need to abide in Christ and His words need to abide in us.  When these take place in the life of the believer, we will ask for things according to His will and not the desires of our flesh.  There is nothing sinful with having any of the above temporal things mentioned.  We must be careful that the pursuit of these things does not become our driving force.
Our pursuit ought to be Christ and His will for our lives.  If along the way, He gives certain "benefits", then we praise Him and see how they can be used for His glory and honour.  Please read carefully what Matthew Henry writes about this verse.  "Those that abide in Christ as their heart's delight shall have, through Christ, their heart's desire. If we have Christ, we shall want nothing that is good for us."
