Our Scripture reading today is Ephesians 6:16, "Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."
Just what might these fiery darts be?  IF we are told to use the shield of faith to quench them, the fiery darts must be darts of doubt.  The enemy is involved in a feverish campaign to create doubt in your mind and mine.  He is attempting to get us to doubt the Word of God, the grace of God, and the love of God.  The more we doubt the promises of God, the less effective we will be in our Christian walk.  Our enemy is a master at archery.
Praise God we have a shield that He has been provided to keep these darts of doubt from reaching their intended target.  The Apostle Paul admonishes us to take the shield of faith.  This would be a large, oblong shield that Paul was referring to. It would protect the entire body from the darts of the enemy.  "Thoughts, feelings, imaginations, fears, and lies – all of these can be hurled at us by Satan as fiery dartsFaith turns them back."  This shield is needed every day.  Don't forget to take it with you!
