Our Scripture reading today is Luke 19:9-10.
Verse 10, For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
The Lord Jesus sets an example for all of us to follow. He came seeking the lost. He came to save lost sinners like you and me. While we cannot save anyone, we can definitely be seeking for ways to give the Gospel to those we know and even those "strangers" we meet on a regular basis. We have the truth that will set people free. The truth of the Gospel is life changing and it is clearly seen in the life of Zacchaeus.
I came across this explanation for this passage and thought it was well written.
The entire account with Zacchaeus gives us a remarkable who, what, where, when, why, and how of receiving Jesus.
  • Who Jesus wants to receive Him: those lost.
  • What Jesus wants with those who receive Him: relationship.
  • Where Jesus wants to go: down to Him.
  • When Jesus wants you to receive Him: immediately, quickly.
  • Why Jesus wants you to receive Him: to be with Him, to connect with Him in life.
  • How Jesus wants you to receive Him: joyfully.
As we go about our Saturday, take time to pray for the lost to be saved and when presented with the opportunity, speak about Jesus and His saving power.
