Our Scripture reading today is 1 Thessalonians 2:4-8.

Verse 7, "But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:"

The care and concern exhibited amongst the Thessalonians was on the level of a mother caring for her new born baby.  Whatever the need was, the Apostle Paul and his helpers wanted to meet the need and meet it with a tender heart.  They were not making demands on the people, instead they came with a heart of giving to the people.  Praise the Lord for many people who have cared for us in like manner.

It is our turn to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and serve others from a heart of gentleness.  A servant expects nothing in return.  We are not a servant because we serve.  We serve because we are a servant.  In other words, the heart is already there before the action take place.  Matthew 23:11, "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant."
