Our Scripture reading today is Romans 8:12-14.

Verse 13, "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."

We are reminded that the flesh does not offer life.  It will always leads to destruction and death.  This reminder is necessary because the devil seeks to deceive us into thinking we can live however we want and everything will be just fine.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  James 1:15, " Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

At the moment of our salvation, we were equipped for the battle.  God's Spirit moved in and started to prepare and change us.  By His power, we can say no to our flesh.  By His power, we can resist temptation.  Romans 6:22, "But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life."  We are saved by the Holy Spirit and we must walk in the power of the same Spirit.  Our spiritual maturity will not grow unless we follow the leading of the Spirit of God.  Galatians 3:3, "Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"  My flesh offers no fruit.  It needs to be crucified every day.
