Our Scripture reading today is Luke 3:1-3.

Verse 2, "Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness."

John the Baptist had been waiting in the wilderness since his youth (Luke 1:80).  He was waiting for the calling of God to be the forerunner of the Messiah.  The Word of God comes to John and he is off on the preaching trail.  His message is not his message.  His message is from God.  John's words were not his words.  He spoke what God directed him to speak.

This should be our pattern today as well.  We should take every opportunity to speak the Word of God.  Many of our conversations should include verses of Scripture.  It is the Word of God that has the power to change any life.  Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and  spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."  We are blessed to have the completed canon of Scripture.  May God help us to faithfully proclaim His Word wherever and whenever His Spirit leads us.
