Our Scripture reading today is Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
The freedom we have as followers of Jesus Christ is a gift that should always be cherished and appreciated. It cost us very little compared to what it cost the Lord Jesus. It would have been impossible for us to free ourselves from the bondage of sin. There are countless numbers of religious people in our world today who are attempting to do just that. They are trying to break free from bondage in their own strength. They are trying to please their god through good works and whatever else their religious leaders tell them.
We have liberty today to follow the Lord Jesus. God loves sinners like you and me. He provided the way to freedom through His Son. There is peace with God and the peace of God in this liberty. The first two words of this verse should be meditated on. If we do not determine to stand fast in this liberty, we can drift back into bondage. Our salvation will always be secure, but we can make the foolish choice to live in bondage once again. Don't put yourself back into slavery when you've been set free!!
