Our Scripture reading today is Luke 2:51-52.

Verse 51, "And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart."

The Son of God was subject ("one that is placed under authority or control") unto the sinful authority that His Father gave Him.  Think for a minute about the humility involved in that statement.  Even though Jesus knew Who He was, it did not make Him proud.  We know from the New Testament (Philippians 2:6) that Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the death of the cross.  We have the hope of eternal life because of His sacrifice.

The Lord Jesus gives us an example to strive to follow.  It should be quite normal for all disciples of Christ to be subject to the biblical authority that God has placed in their lives.  We may not always like what we are told to do.  We may not see it completely.  Obedience is still the very best way to show that we believe.
