Our Scripture reading today is James 1:19-21.

Verse 19, "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:"

The art of listening is something we could all work on.  We should want the person to know that we are there with them in whatever they are trying to convey to us.  Too many times, I have done the opposite of what James writes.  I have been swift to speak and slow to hear.

When we are swift to hear we are thinking of others.  When we are swift to speak we are self-centered.  This type of attitude will lead to being swift to wrath.  I believe we should ask the Holy Spirit to help us with our listening skills.  Make it a part of your prayer time to seek to a listener that brings glory to God.
