Our Scripture reading today is Hebrews 12:5-7.
Verse 6, "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth."
If we were to read through these verses with the mind of a child it may not add up.  We were told in the previous verse not to despise the chastening of the Lord.  This means we are to be thankful for it.  Thankful for chastening and scourging?
Just as a loving parent will discipline their child, our heavenly Father corrects and chastens us because He loves us.  The chastening hand of God is meant to keep us from causing more harm to ourselves and others around us.  It is also meant to teach us that we might teach others.  Lastly, it is meant to remind us that we are His child.  God's correction is an indicator that I am His and He is mine.
As we begin this new day, be thankful for the loving correction that we receive from our God.  He does not let us walk into something harmful without a loving warning.
