Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 2:3-4.
Verse 4, "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
As a soldier in the army of the Lord, it is important that we avoid getting intertwined with the things of this world.  Life is much more like a battlefield than a recreation room.  Satan isn't playing games, he is out for blood.  His will stop at nothing less than total destruction.  We prepare for our daily battle in the Word of God, prayer, and by putting on the armour provided to us by the Lord.  (See Ephesians 6:13-18.)
Our commanding officer is none other than the Lord Jesus and He deserves our total loyalty and obedience.  The daily goal of the soldier in the Lord's army is to please Him.  He set the example for us to follow when He willingly laid down His life at the cross.  His sacrificial death makes it not only possible for us to go to Heaven, but for us to live our lives for His glory and honour.  Claim your victory today through Christ!
