Our Scripture reading today is John 10:11, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."

The shepherd has one daily goal: protect the sheep.  This means a shepherd is willing to take many risks in order to keep his sheep from being killed by a predator.  However, I am not sure too many shepherds would be willing to die for a sheep.  The Lord Jesus makes it clear that He is not only willing to take risks, but He is also willing to lay down His life for the sheep.

We are blessed as sheep to the have the Lord Jesus as our shepherd.  He willingly gave His life that we might have life.  Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."  He is giving His life still. The life that is in the man Christ Jesus he is always giving for us. It is for us He lives, and because He lives we live also. He lives to plead for us. He lives to represent us in heaven. He lives to rule providence for us.” (Spurgeon)

By God's grace we should live every day for the glory of our Shepherd!
