Our Scripture reading today is Mark 10:42-45.
Verse 44, "And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all."
In our way of thinking, the king would be the chiefest or the most important.  God's ways and our ways are not the same.  The emphasis in this passage is to serve and to be humble.  The greatest example we have of this is the Son of God.   Jesus Christ came to Earth not to be made king but to humble Himself by giving His life that we might have eternal life.
There are many reasons for giving thanks.  In fact, our lives should be marked by thankfulness each and every day.  God continues to pour out His blessings on His children.  We should be most thankful today for our secured salvation through the greatest servant of all, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We serve Him by serving others!
