Our Scripture reading today is John 1:14-17.

Verse 17, "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."

The law that was given by Moses was needed in order that we might know we are sinners and in need of a Saviour.  Romans 3:20, "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."

Grace and truth were delivered by the Son of God.  The law tells me I am sinner and sin must be punished.  Grace tells me that even though I deserve punishment, Jesus Christ lovingly paid it for me.  As we learned on Sunday, He became my substitute on the cross of Calvary.  My death penalty has been pardoned by the Truth found in the Gospel. The Gospel is Jesus Christ's Good News to all mankind.  Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

God has commissioned us to deliver the Gospel.  We are to be His ambassadors delivering His grace and truth to sinners in need of a Saviour.  There is no time for delay!
