Our Scripture reading today is John 19:16-18.

Verse 17, "And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:"

When the Romans crucified someone, they always made them carry the cross they would be crucified on.  This was a public display seeking to draw attention to the individual who was condemned to die.  Our innocent Saviour endured this public humiliation so that guilty sinners like you and me could be made innocent.  Jesus would not only bear His cross that day.  He would bear the sins of all mankind.
Isaiah 53:5, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

We have every reason to give Him thanks and praise for all He accomplished on the old rugged cross.  There are eternal blessings as well as the ones we are experiencing now.  His love was on full display!
