Our Scripture reading today is Lamentations 3:21-26.

Verse 24, "The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."

Jeremiah's soul is satisfied with the LORD.  He has all that he will need in Him.  The third chapter of Lamentations is the first time we find hope in this book of the Bible.  Once Jeremiah settled in his heart that the LORD was His sufficiency, he then could say his hope was in Him.  We read in Psalm 119:57, "Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words."

How many times have we been guilty of seeking satisfaction from material possessions or wealth?  While they do provide a temporary fulfillment, there isn't any long lasting satisfaction.  Eventually we will want something bigger and better.  This type of thinking does not provide much hope.  How much is enough?  The writings of Jeremiah that we are reading this morning need to be meditated on and applied to our lives each and every day.  God is our faithful Shepherd and He will provide everything we need.  The pathway to hope leads through our contentment in what God provides us.
